Care for Today. Hope for Eternity.
Located on the campus of Obong University, Akwabia Hospital provides compassionate medical care for students and staff as well as individuals and families from surrounding communities.
As a Christian healthcare ministry, Akwabia seeks to meet physical needs with skill and compassion while expressing the love of Christ and the enduring hope found in Jesus.
A Hospital Born from Urgent Need
As the number of students on the Obong campus grew, access to medical care became an urgent concern. The nearest hospital was about thirty miles away, and the trip could take two or three hours even during the dry season. During the rains, the journey became extremely difficult—and sometimes nearly impossible.
Recognizing the need, Dr. Moses Akpanudo began pursuing a local medical facility that could serve the growing campus and people from surrounding communities.

Built Through Christian Partnership
Akwabia Hospital became possible because Christians across continents joined Dr. Moses Akpanudo in responding to an urgent need for accessible medical care.
Crieve Hall Church of Christ in Nashville provided significant early financial support, while Healing Hands supplied beds and mattresses needed for patient care. Together, these gifts helped turn the vision of a local cottage hospital into a functioning place of care.
What began as a response to the needs of students and staff has since expanded to serve individuals and families from surrounding communities.
One Mission, Working Together

Akwabia Hospital is part of the larger Obong mission. Established on the university campus to care for students and staff across Obong’s educational ministries, it has expanded its services to individuals and families from surrounding communities.
Here, healthcare stands alongside Christian education as another expression of the same calling: meeting practical needs with skill and compassion while reflecting the love of Christ through service.

Compassion Rooted in Christ
At Akwabia Hospital, caring for people means more than responding to illness. Medical care is offered with compassion, dignity, and a desire to reflect the love of Christ in every patient encounter.
In moments of pain, fear, and uncertainty, the hospital seeks to offer more than clinical treatment. It aims to create natural opportunities for encouragement, prayer, and the enduring hope found in Jesus.
Equipped Through Generous Partnership

Medical Laboratory: Essential diagnostic testing helps Akwabia Hospital’s clinicians identify illness and guide effective treatment.
Quality medical care depends on dedicated professionals—and on having the tools they need to serve. Through the generosity of churches, individuals, and mission partners, Akwabia Hospital continues to strengthen its ability to diagnose illness, treat patients, and perform essential procedures.
From laboratory equipment that helps clinicians understand a patient’s condition to surgical equipment that makes needed procedures possible, each resource expands the care available to students, families, and surrounding villages. These gifts become practical instruments of healing and tangible expressions of Christian compassion.

Surgical Suite: The hospital’s surgical table helps make essential procedures available closer to rural communities Akwabia serves.
Care Closer to Home
Today Akwabia’s ministry extends beyond the Obong campus to individuals and families from surrounding communities. Its services are designed for the whole family, including adults, children, and expectant mothers.
In Nigeria, where families bear much of the cost of healthcare directly, both distance and expense can make treatment difficult to obtain. Akwabia helps address one part of that challenge by bringing compassionate medical care closer to the community it was established to serve.
